CrikSales Most Frequently Requested Customizations
By Jason M. · Published
No two companies sell the same way. Some call a customer's type something different, some don't want buyers to see stock levels, and some need a report that no standard package includes. Here are the kinds of changes CrikSales customers ask for most, and how each one is handled.
The short version
- Labels: rename columns and fields so the portal uses your language.
- Fields: show or hide what matters to each audience.
- Permissions and workflow: decide what reps can do and how many steps a task takes.
- Defaults: start records with the right country, notes, and rules.
- Outputs: custom reports, dashboards, order forms, and order types.
1. Terminology and labels
The most common request is also the simplest: use the words your team and buyers already use. A rename is a small change that removes a lot of daily confusion.
- Show "Agency" where the order confirmation grid would say "PO".
- Turn the contact "Fax" field into "Best Contact/Day Off", since few people use fax anymore.
- Relabel a price column from "SRP" to "SDP", for suggested dealer price.
- Rename lead fields to "Customer Type" and "Job Type" to match how you qualify work.
- Call a date column "Next Available Date" and an inventory quantity link "Click for Details".
2. Fields shown or hidden
Not every field belongs on every screen. Teams often want to simplify what customers and reps see, or add information that is specific to their business.
- Hide available-quantity columns on the items grid when you don't want to share stock levels.
- Replace "Credit Limit" with "Payment Terms", read from a per-customer field, and hide available credit.
- Hide the balance, status, co-op, and price-list rows on the customer dashboard.
- Add extra price columns, such as a custom SRP and a MAP.
- Show the ship-to name column on order confirmations, which is hidden by default.
- Turn on a "Related Customers" section for accounts that work in groups.
- Hide lead source and referral fields you don't track.
3. Permissions and workflow
Who can do what, and how many steps it takes, is the next most requested area. Tighter permissions keep data clean, and shorter workflows save time.
- Limit what sales reps can do: no adding contacts or attachments, and no access to customer settings, contact notes, opportunities, or the rep field.
- Remove the new-order and quote buttons for reps while management keeps full access.
- Make lead entry a one-step action. Creating a lead skips the lead page and finishes straight away.
- Open the order screen with options that fit your ordering process.
4. Regional defaults and notes
Defaults save keystrokes, and notes put the right context in front of users at the right moment.
- Default new contacts and leads to Canada instead of the USA.
- Add a note on the location screen, such as a warning that a warehouse's ETA can move by about two weeks.
- Handle item descriptions that contain a certain phrase, such as "- use", in a special way on the purchase order accessories screen.
5. Reports, dashboards, and forms
Standard reports cover most needs, but many teams also run on outputs that are unique to them.
- Custom reports: dealer sales, an Excel-friendly shipping report, rep reporting, and unit sales versus budget.
- Dashboards: build your own set of charts, or start from the default template.
- Order forms: use your own named purchase order form, the default form, or a standard form for QuickBooks users.
- Order types: define your own list, such as "Re-Order Same Qty" and "Re-Order w/Changes".
- Header section: choose which accounts see it open by default.
How a customization request works
Start with the standard CrikSales setup, then tell the team what feels off. Most requests in this list are configuration or small changes rather than a rebuild, so they can be made without disrupting the rest of your portal. See how customization works for more examples.
